"Bucket Budget"

I read this in Money Magazine June 2009 issue. I want to try this. At first glance I thought: this might be a lot of work, but I think I need a system that is going to be a lot of work, this way I will actually keep up with it. Need to check on how to set up a secondary che… Continue

Almost There

I set a Goal in December 2008 to save 3,000 by end of June 2009. So far I have 645.28 to go. I am fairly confident I will be able to still meet my goal end of June. I could have already reached this goal in late April early May but I went on vacation in both of those months and needed to spend some money to have a little fun. Well worth it. Continue

Flight + Wedding = My Money

My father sent a text to say that the wedding has been moved from July 4 to April 18. I read it and thought, well that sucks and I won't be going. He called the next day because I did not respond to the text and wanted to know if I could make it. I said financially it is not something I see happening (I have a bad habit of dancing around questions.) He said if I needed help to let him know because he and new wifey are in the position to do so. Here is my problem with that; my father has NEVER he… Continue

How many times does Suze have to warn you?

"But in 2009 you cannot afford to be laid back and do what is easy. You must push yourself as hard as possible to build your security as quickly as possible." This quote is from Chapter 5- Action Plan: Savings of Suze Orman's book Action Plan. I downloaded the book at home, but one of my friends emailed the book to a lot of folks this morning. (I clearly remember seeing something that said not to share. Hmmm, does this fall into the unethical category?) Anywho, I open it, l… Continue

My 2009 Financial Goal

So last year I decided that something should be done with my "car note money" (CNM) once I paid off the loan. I didn't really give it much thought other than to save it. This morning I was going through my usual routine of checking my CU account to see how much money I have left until the 15th when I got this idea. I get paid tomorrow from my PT job, but that money is going into my secondary savings account. My CNM automatically goes into my primary savings account since it was decucted from pay… Continue

Drumroll Please....

It is done. I paid off my truck! Here is how it went down. I got up this morning excited about truck pay off day. I even got dolled up for the occassion. I had the alarm set on my email to alert me to my lunch time and truck pay off moment. I called a friend to ride with me to discuss some other matters at hand. We get there, he stays in the truck. I go inside...and wouldn't ya know it, everyone else was there on their lunch break. So I left, defeated and we went to go eat at Oodles. (It was a l… Continue

Emergency Plan

My DH, who doesn't ive with me, lost his job on the 14th. He has no money saved. He was laid off with no severance package or hopes of unemployment. Thinking about his situation and what I think he should do, but I know he won't: he should cut expenses. Really he should have cut expenses then to be prepared for now. He knew it was coming, but as always he thinks, it can't happen to me because I am an essential member of the team. I am THE accountant. They moved his work to an office in another c… Continue

Change your Language; Change your Life.

Whether we know it or not, language is a powerful tool. Through our thoughts we have the power to attract that which we really desire. My DVD player died over the summer and since then I have been saying that I "want" a new DVD player. Well, guess what? I have been wanting that DVD player and have yet to get one. I am horrible with using "want" in my language. All the things that I say I "want" I still don't have and I know I need to change my language, I wrote about it years ago in my journal.… Continue

November Goal

My goal is to save $200 for the month. Right now the only thing I spend extra money on is food. I am an boredom eater. I have started reading again to keep my mind occupied. If I think I am hungry, I need to first drink some water, if that doesn't solve it, then chew gum. I have gotten rid of my junk food so I won't have any unhealthy snacks laying around. Looking over my statements, I spend a lot on food, be it at GE or eating out. I had been eating clean for a little while and decided to eat a… Continue

Out of Hock...Out of Debt

I went to this seminar on Saturday and it was informative. It was not what I expected. I like side conversations but if there is an agenda, I'd rather follow the agenda. We didn't because we had some ladies who were asking questions, so she didn't follow the book but jumped around to accomodate the audience. If it had been a large group and I could have gone unnoticed, I would have left. I notice as I get older, I like structure. I like the fact that Teri was so forthcoming with her own financia… Continue

September Updates

the month is almost over and i have done very well on decreasing my spending. *pat on the back* i went to the thrift store only twice this month. the first time i spent 20 bucks 1 sweater, two ann taylor tops, shoes and a yellow bag. the bag was 7 dollars, but i really like it. normally i only buy dark colors, so that yellow was begging me to get it. it is a soft leather too. so my second thrift day was last friday, i was leaving a meeting at otterbein college, and drove past the ohio thrift. i… Continue

The Kyd and Money

My daughter has no concept of "money". She knows what cash is and if you have cash, they you have a lot of money. She thinks if you use a debit or credit card that you have no money. Every day that I have her (she spends alternate weeks with her father) she asks to rent a movie from Redbox. I have no problem doing that, I just hate spending 1.12 to get a movie. Yes, it is cheaper than blockbuster or my now cancelled Netflix account, but I just hate seeing a transaction for one movie, so I end up… Continue

Mission: Decrease Spending

I was just looking at my statement online and it is 6 pages long. My goal for September is to decrease the number of pages in my statement. To do this, I need to stop with my spending. I will only spend money on bills, gas and groceries. I have been obsessively shopping at Giant Eagle. They have a food bar that has curried tofu and it is so freaking good that I sometimes get it twice a day. But, I will need to stop this, no tofu this month unless I cook my own. I bought tofu and curry so I'll ha… Continue

Rodeo

I just checked my account to see how much I owe on my truck. I owe 2994.47. I have a secondary share account with 2100.51 which means I am definately going to pay off this truck by my goal date of Dec 22 (my birthday). I haven't owned a vehicle since 2000 when I let him talk me into getting a new auto so he wouldn't be embarrassed driving my Geo Metro to work. My daughter asked me last night why I still had the same truck and her daddy has had at least 3 or 4 cars. I just added my LTF pay to my… Continue
