Those are some good, solid strategies. I agree with you about the list. I end up using my Grocery Game list as my base, then write down the couple additional things (usually milk, eggs, etc.) that I need that aren't specifically on the Grocery Gam...

Danielle,
I have a question, I pulled my credit report and if an account is listed under the remarks as "credit card lost or stolen" - does that mean it is closed?

Hi again - I want to commend you on your awesome online community/site. I actually found your site via the Filene Research Institute's report "Credit Unions and Social Media: Engaging Young Adults". So from that I am sure you've gathered I am a fellow CU person. I am the marketing person at United Educational CU in Battle Creek, Michigan. I thought your site very interesting because it mirrors a lot of what we've been doing lately with regard to financial topics/advice. We held a "Financial Survival Fair" during CU Week, and we now are offering a "Financial Survival Kit" to our members that is proving popular. While researching trends for my marketing plan, I found (what I and you, obviously, already knew) that 2009 will be the year of consumer thrift, practicality, etc. So we are ahead of a trend! :-) I really think these types of things really add value for our members and set us apart from many other financial institutions.

What is your biggest financial goal right now?
Financially survive being a new parent!

Greetings

Hello everyone. I was previously the Community Affairs Director for MidState Educators Credit Union and did a lot of our financial education seminars. Now I'm just an average Joe trying to get (and then stay) debt free! Hard to do as a first-time parent and with a couple of cars we still want to pay off.

Looking forward to sharing tips and ideas with all of you!

Getting back on the wagon

I have been TERRIBLE lately about hitting the convenience foods and eating out more than I should. I could make a lot of excuses, but the fact is I've just been lazy lately. I've been spending more on food as a result, too.

So I vowed this evening that I was going to MAKE DINNER AT HOME with whatever available items were in the fridge and the freezer.

So I grabbed the following items from our existing stock of random edibles:
- frozen turkey kielbasa
- onion
- pine nuts
- tomato
- 1/4 head ice… Continue

For those of you who have President's Day off

They also report that the first 150 kids in at COSI today beginning at 10am get in FREE (parking and adult admission is presumably extra).

Fellow Frugal Folks - Valentine's Day Alert!

If you're looking for a spot to spend Valentine's Day and don't want to break the bank, consider visiting the Franklin Park Conservatory.

On Valentine's day they have free admission from 5pm - 10pm (free parking, too). If you want to partake of the wine sampling then it will be $3 each for tasting tickets, or 5 tickets for $14.

But wine tasting aside, what a wonderful way to spend an evening with your significant other enjoying some… Continue
